Dr. R. Venkatesha Prasad is a faculty member in the Networked Systems group at Delft University of Technology (TU Delft). He has supervised over 20 Ph.D. and 80 MSc students and co-authored over 350 peer-reviewed publications across international journals, conferences, patents, standards, and book chapters.

He has successfully acquired and executed multiple European and Dutch national projects in areas such as IoT, CPS, mmWave networks, smart energy systems, personal networks, and cognitive radios. In 2014, Prasad earned the 4TU University Teaching Qualification Diploma with “excellence.” His research in IoT earned him the distinction of IEEE Communications Society (ComSoc) Distinguished Lecturer twice (2016–2020).

Actively bridging research and practice, he contributes to standardization efforts, including workgroups on Cognitive Radios and as a mentor for the IEEE Tactile Internet & 6G Empowering Robotics standards. He is currently Vice Chair of the MobiNet-SC ComSoc Standardization Administration Group and was formerly the Secretary of the ComSoc Standards Board.

He has held key roles in IEEE technical committees, including Vice Chair of Cognitive Networking (2013–2016, 2020–2022) and Green Communications and Computing (2017–2019). He serves as an editor for several journals and magazines and is also a regular TPC member at leading conferences.

Prasad was instrumental in initiating collaborations between Indian and Dutch institutions. He facilitated the signing of the MoU between IISc Bangalore, IIST, and TU Delft and anchored research ties between ISRO and TU Delft. He also served as the Deputy Project Director of Lunar Zebro, a moon rover project.

During his Ph.D. at IISc, Bangalore, he developed a scalable VoIP conferencing platform, which contributed to the founding of the start-up Esqube Communication Solutions. At Esqube, he and his colleagues filed several patents and PCT applications. Esqube was recognized by NASSCOM as one of the Top 100 IT Innovators in India (2006) and by Red Herring as one of the Top 100 Promising Companies in Asia (2008).

In 2019, he led a student team that won the Airbus Fly Your Ideas worldwide challenge, prevailing over approximately 300 competing teams. He is the co-founder of ZED BV, the Netherlands, and Skynetics, India. He is a Senior Member of IEEE and ACM and a Fellow of IETE.
