Biography:

Dr. Shah Alam Khan is currently working as Professor and Head of Dept of Pharmaceutical Medicinal Chemistry at the College of Pharmacy, National University of Science and Technology, Muscat, Oman (In academic partnership with West Virginia University, USA). He earned his Ph.D. in 2003 from Jamia Hamdard University, New Delhi, India for studying the chemistry and hepatoprotective potential of Silybum marianum (Milk thistle), silymarin and its synthetic analogues containing 1,4 dioxane ring system. Dr. Khan is a recipient of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF-UGC, GATE qualified) and Senior Research fellowship (SRF, CSIR) from the Government of India for pursuing master’s and doctorate degrees. His field of expertise includes structure-based drug design, syntheses, chemical characterization, molecular docking and biological evaluation of hybrid heterocyclic compounds vis a vis exploration of natural products for the drug discovery of novel lead compounds. He has published 200+ full length scientific articles in Scopus/WoS/ISI indexed national and international journals which have been cited 12,650+ times as per Google Scholar. Additionally, he has contributed over 22 book chapters in publications by renowned publishers such as Elsevier, Taylor and Francis, CRC Press, Springer Nature, Nova, and Wiley. He has also edited a book on Drug Repurposing published by Nova publishers, USA. He is serving on editorial boards of several high impact international journals and has reviewed scientific papers for over 75 journals in the field of pharmaceutical & biological sciences. Dr. Khan has supervised 2 PhDs, 45+ undergraduate and postgraduate research projects, many of which have won awards in poster/oral presentation categories at international conferences. He also holds two Australian patents and an Indian copyright. He has successfully completed twelve funded research projects, and a few more are ongoing. He has been invited as a guest speaker to numerous national and international conferences. His achievements have been recognized with the ‘NU Best Researcher award’ in 2020-21, & 2024-25, ‘NU Best academic excellence award in 2021-22’, the Best Professor in Pharmacy in Oman in July 2023 and the Best teacher awards in 2007, 2010, 2011 and 2016.  He is also listed among 2% Scientists list prepared by the Stanford authors based on the Scopus citations for four consecutive years, from 2021 to 2025. He is a life member of professional bodies including the IPA, ATINER, IPGA and APTI.
